For bees, winter lasts longer than for us, and due to external conditions it can be very difficult. During this coldest season, people spend a lot of time in warm homes, only going out from time to time. The bees spend this time inside the hive. In fact, from October, when the temperature drops, to March or even April, when the thermometer shows again more than 10 degrees Celsius, these insects do not extend beyond their “place of residence”. Only the thin walls of the hive protect them from the bitter frost, but it is not them that make them survive when the outside temperature drops even several degrees below zero. They survive thanks to their collective intelligence and the fact that although they are several thousand tiny insects, they act as one “super-organism”. How perfectly designed this organism is, is demonstrated by the fact that bees as a species have lived on Earth for about 100 million years, and that the climate disasters that caused the extinction of many species did not manage to harm the bees. We will write about what is happening in the hive during the winter next time!
