Today, in addition to World Animal Day, we also celebrate World Oncology Day. For this reason, in the next post in the People of Science series, we will present the person of an oncologist, an American – Martha Tracy. Just a year after the founding of #AACR – America’s largest and oldest association related to cancer research – she became the first female member. She worked closely with its founders. She helped develop Coley toxin therapy, which was an effective cancer-fighting immunotherapy agent. Therapy was used until the 1960s. It consisted in the stimulation of the immune system by factors of bacterial origin and induction of an immune response.
