In the last entry, we discussed the basis on which the quality standards for the raw materials and finished products tested in pharmacy are determined. Today we will discuss in a little more detail what is more specifically studied in dietary supplements and / or medicinal products.

The basic analyses are the studies listed below.

Form – defines the appearance of the product / starting material / packaging material – e.g. the colour and smell of the raw material / tablet. It can be the first warning signal that its / their quality is insufficient.
Identity – this test is to check whether we are dealing with the substance indicated by the name of the raw material or the composition of the product.
Mass uniformity – this parameter characterizes the mass of tablets / capsules. It is important due to the maintenance of the appropriate dose of the substance in a single tablet / capsule and checking whether there are large discrepancies in the weight of individual tablets / capsules.
Mechanical resistance to abrasion – this parameter characterizes the mechanical strength of the product and allows us to verify whether, for example, tablets are not too brittle and will not break when the patient squeezes them out of the blister.
Disintegration Time – This type of analysis is performed to check whether the tested tablets / capsules disintegrate within a predetermined time range when placed in a specific medium. This test may, for example, indicate whether the tested tablets are not too hard and will not stay in the digestive system for too long.
Release of the active substance – this analysis verifies whether the active substance is released from the product in the right time or whether the process is too fast / too slow.
The content of active substance – this parameter is also related to the size of the dose in the finished product. It is a test of the amount of active substance in a given product; the content of specific compounds / elements in the starting materials used for production is also analysed.

We look forward to working with you!
